2009 Cub First Aid Day

First Scarborough MedVents’ first annual Cub First Aid Day held on Saturday March 28th 2009 was a success; the venue was at the Toronto EMS headquarters located at 4330 Dufferin St., Downsview Ontario. This remarkable event was organized to help cubs earn their first aid badge through a serious of rigorous activities delivered by the youth from First Scarborough MedVents. The success of this event can be illustrated by the number of people who attended; there were about 13 different groups that attended with over 120 cubs and leaders. Moreover, media coverage was delivered by CP24, CTV News, Scarborough Mirror and a local Chinese newspaper.

When nearly 8000 people descended on the biggest Scout Jamboree in Canadian history, specially trained MedVent Scouts from Toronto and other EMS services in Ontario were on hand to provide Medical support. This Jamboree marked 100 years of Scouting worldwide. Participants came from all over Canada as well as from the U.S.A., Kenya, Switzerland, the U.K., and Taiwan. The medical team consisting of physicians, nurses and over 80 MedVent youth and advisors took care of around 1200 requests for medical service involving everything from heat related illnesses to fractures.  The medical team performed so efficiently that they will be sure to be asked to participate in the next Canadian Jamboree in 2011.
