2009 Cub First Aid Day
Saturday, 25 July 2009 13:27

First Scarborough MedVents’ first annual Cub First Aid Day held on Saturday March 28th 2009 was a success; the venue was at the Toronto EMS headquarters located at 4330 Dufferin St., Downsview Ontario. This remarkable event was organized to help cubs earn their first aid badge through a serious of rigorous activities delivered by the youth from First Scarborough MedVents. The success of this event can be illustrated by the number of people who attended; there were about 13 different groups that attended with over 120 cubs and leaders. Moreover, media coverage was delivered by CP24, CTV News, Scarborough Mirror and a local Chinese newspaper.

The eager cubs were trained in rescue breathing and CPR, measures to take to save a life (what to do until help arrives), limitations of a first aider, bleeds, insect/animal bites, clothes that catch on fires, as well as heat and cold injuries. The thorough training was complete with props such as CPR and rescue breathing mannequins, bandages, gauze and much more. Furthermore the excited cubs were privileged to be given a tour of the Toronto EMS ambulance by a paramedic student from First Scarborough MedVents.

Next year’s event promises to be an equally exciting event. It will be held on Saturday March 27th, 2010 at the at the Toronto EMS head quarters located at 4330 Dufferin St., Downsview Ontario. For further information please refer to next year’s flyer.
